Cityville

For instance, Zynga announced two new projects in its most recent earnings call. However, as players, and even Zynga itself, have shifted their attention away from Facebook to mobile platforms, many games aren’t able to command the audience attention they once did, and game closures aren’t uncommon. CityVille launched on Facebook in late 2010, and was, for a time, not only the top game in Zynga’s portfolio, but was also behind some staggering user numbers, with over 100 million monthly active users. Readers: Are you sad to see CityVille close its doors? Are you still actively playing any of Zynga’s Facebook games?. The arena is an attraction in CityVille, and an avatar of Enrique can be seen performing while the arena is open. Players can send other players gifts and help them in some of their goals. Another event promoted was the Michael Jackson: The Immortal World Tour. Within 50 days, “CityVille” had 61 million monthly active users, eclipsing “FarmVille” as the company’s most popular social game.

In September 2012, Zynga began rolling out CityVille Lakefront, the biggest CityVille expansion to date, to players Level 25 or above. More information on those rewards is available on the CityVille Facebook fan page.

The game debuted in December 2010 while Zynga was ascending as a Facebook social games powerhouse. As first spotted by CEGamers, CityVille will close its doors on April 30.

Zynga has also developed a mobile version of the game, CityVille Hometown which is available for the iPhone and iPad. An attempt to create an upgraded version, “CityVille 2,” failed quickly.

While Zynga might be closing CityVille, fans of the developer have much to look forward to, in the form of new mobile games, set for release this year. Social games company Zynga has announced it will be closing CityVille on Facebook, marking the end of an era for the once-mega city-building game. Players had the opportunity to place an arena and play a concert. Enrique Iglesias also made his CityVille appearance in October 2011, giving players a task to build Enrique's Euphoria Arena. As is tradition with Zynga’s Facebook game closures, CityVille players are being rewarded for their loyalty with free in-game content in other Zynga titles (in this case, either FarmVille 2 or CastleVille Legends). Lady Gaga items were available via RewardVille for a limited time. Appropriately, CityVille was once a top franchise for Zynga, spawning the development of an, albeit short-lived, Facebook sequel in CityVille 2, a mobile spin-off (CityVille Hometown) and even the creation of a real-world CityVille Monopoly board game and other toys. For instance, Zynga announced two new projects in its most recent earnings call. Players build roads and sidewalks to expand their current city out to the drawbridge, which connects the lakefront to the player’s city.

The game had 100,000 players on its launch day, making it Zynga's largest launch ever at the time of its release. This gives the player reputation points. It is essentially a variant of the Monopoly City board game, with its elements retooled to reflect those used in the CityVille online games. Players can also buy goods, sell goods (supplying goods to other players' cities if their business branches are in their cities), and produce their own goods by farming and shipping. A third game, Empires & Allies, is a resurrection of a previously closed Facebook title of the same name, but given a modern setting and new gameplay to appeal to mobile gamers. But Zynga’s fortunes and number of players took a downturn shortly after that. Points increase the amount of energy, experience level and coins bonuses available on a daily basis. The main task of the game is to complete goals, which can be seen on the top left corner of the screen and earn City Coins. The points provide the player with a free goods bonus and one or two heart requests with each reputation level-up. Within 50 days, “CityVille” had 61 million monthly active users, eclipsing “FarmVille” in its lineup of most popular products.

Several major music artists promoted their albums using CityVille. However, the mobile game is not connected to the web game.

The player can also visit their neighbor's city and perform up to five different jobs every 12 hours. An attempt to revive the franchise with an upgraded version, “CityVille 2,” failed quickly.

In CityVille Lakefront, players can build a canal and a drawbridge at the same time. CityVille initially had 80 experience levels, which was increased to 90 experience levels and again to 200 experience levels.

In 2012, Zynga, in conjunction with Hasbro, released a CityVille edition of Monopoly under the "Hasbro Gaming" imprint. Within its first 50 days, CityVille grew to 61 million monthly active users.

More information on those rewards is available on the CityVille Facebook fan page. On January 2, 2011, CityVille reached the most monthly active users for an application ever on Facebook, beating FarmVille's previous record although numbers may drop as its release date was exactly a month prior. The goal is to be the first player to own four skyscrapers by building up your neighborhoods.
